Ashville College Disc Golf Club - Golf Discs

Disc Golf can be played with a single disc - although most players carry a selection of discs to cope with the different shots required during a round of golf.

Golf discs can be divided into approximately three categories:

The aerodynamics and profile of each disc give it its own flight characterisitics. Players will select the appropriate disc for a shot taking into account wind conditions, distance, elevation of pin etc. In time, you will learn how each disc flies for you and develop your game accordingly.

A multi-purpose disc such as the Shark teamed with a putt-and-approach disc such as the Aviar makes an excellent combination for those trying the sport for the first time.

Discs also come in two weight classes - those around 150 grams and those up to 180 grams. Younger players often find the lighter discs easier to control as they develop their technique.

The main suppliers of Golf Discs are based in the United States. Innova and Discraft have been making discs for many years, their websites can provide you with all you need to know about their extensive ranges of discs. More recently a British disc has arrived on the market from Discwing.

All these discs can be purchased from two UK suppliers, both members of the BDGA (British Disc Golf Association) - Discology and Quarry Park.

Whichever discs you use, you will need to experiment and practice with them! If you need any advice on buying discs, please feel free to speak to Mr. Davies at any time.
